Street Pastors

Pioneered in London in 2003 by Ascension Trust, Street Pastors is an inter-denominational Church response to urban problems, engaging with people on the streets to care, listen and dialogue. Street Pastors are Christians, who regularly attend a church and want to make a difference in their community.

Local branches are set up by Ascension Trust (Street Pastors' founding and governing charity) in conjunction with a local management team and community groups in the area.  While always a Church initiative, every local branch is a partnership between Police, council and church. Without this co-operation, a local branch of Street Pastors cannot start

Croydon Street Pastors launched in December 2007 and we currently have around 20 Street Pastors from a number of different churches including New Life. One of our elders, Mark Rossell, currently serves on the local management committee. Croydon Street Pastors at the moment operate every Friday evening from around 9.30pm-2am.

Street Pastors are all volunteers who undergo a set period of training before being allowed to wear the Street Pastors uniform and join a team. Once trained, Street Pastors are expected  to commit to work a minimum of just one session per month.
